Andre is just 12 years old, but he is transforming his community every day.

In the heart of Rwanda and across Africa, life literally depends on access to clean water, safe sanitation facilities, and healthy hygiene practices. Without them, disease runs rampant. Children face an uncertain future. And life expectancy decreases significantly.

That’s why Andre’s work and your support are so important.

He is a member of the WASH club at his school, where he helps to keep the school clean and encourages other students to wash their hands and dishes. Andre understands that clean water, sanitation, and good hygiene practices protect him and other students from illness. That means they miss fewer days of school and can look forward to a brighter future.

The WASH initiative brings together water, sanitation, and hygiene, three key elements that help maximize individual and community health. All three are necessary for one to be a success … all three are critical to the health of children across Africa.

And you make all three — water, sanitation, and hygiene — possible.

Together with Blood:Water, you help our partners on the ground provide clean water from sources like wells with hand pumps, rainwater catchment systems, household filtration, and more. Each community faces a different combination of difficulties, so each solution is uniquely tailored to meet the local need.

In some situations, you may help ensure safe sanitation facilities through improved latrine technologies. At other times, you might be supporting best hygiene practices like handwashing, dish-drying racks, and garbage pits.

Whatever the local need, you help empower that community!

But we don’t stop there. Change only comes when communities work together to promote the adoption of these safe practices.

That’s where the WASH clubs come into play. Your support helps raise up local leaders like young Andre to implement WASH solutions and promote health from within their schools, families, and communities.

Andre is one of Africa’s local heroes today … and he hopes to become president of Rwanda someday. Imagine the difference he can make!

Thank you for empowering Andre, supporting the WASH initiative, and ultimately, fostering health in Africa with Blood:Water. Click here to fuel more WASH clubs!
