Blood:Water has two office interns dedicating their semester to creating lasting change in Africa. Meet Caroline and Kat – our ladies of the fall. Who run the world? GIRLS!

intern-1

Meet our engagement/marketing intern, Caroline Archer, a newlywed from Carrollton, Georgia.

Why did you apply to be an intern at Blood:Water?

I just finished my undergrad at Mercer University in Environmental Engineering where I had the opportunity to focus on rural water supply in developing countries, especially in Uganda. Once I saw the effects of the water crisis first hand, I knew that I would never get it out of my heart. Not only that, but I got a much better idea of just how much of a commitment long-term development takes. I moved to Nashville to attend Vanderbilt Divinity School and wanted to find a way to stay connected with my passion for developing rural water supply. I was so excited to realize that Blood:Water is right down the road!

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Good ol’ southern vegetable plate with mashed potatoes, green beans, mac and cheese, and creamed corn. My mouth’s watering just thinking about it.

What is your dream job?

I’m still discerning exactly what I feel called to. Through college I imagined myself as a Jena Lee Nardella, although I didn’t know of her at the time. My shaky experience with the short-term mission trip culture raised a lot of questions for me, and after visiting Uganda, I started to get a better grasp on the commitment that long-term development really requires. I’m currently in seminary, because I want to approach these questions through the lens of faith. After seminary, I might pursue ordination in the United Methodist Church, or might not. I’m hoping that the next few years will help me to keep discerning my calling!

Tell us one of your special quirks!

I love laughing, but I have always been a little self-conscious of my laugh. To make things worse, I’ve started snorting entirely too often in the last few years. But, hey, at least that usually gets people to start laughing with me!

intern-2

Meet our marketing intern, Kat Coffey, a sports-lover from Shelbyville, Tennessee.

Why did you apply to be an intern at Blood:Water?

I went on a mission trip to Africa last summer, and ever since I returned I realized that God was calling me to help Africa in any way that I possibly could. I was blessed enough to receive this opportunity, and I am so thankful for it.

What is your dream job?

Ihave two dream jobs! I want to be a National Geographic photographer and start a nonprofit organization.

What is your favorite pastime?

I love attending and/or watching University of Tennessee football games, and going to concerts. I’m really bad at choosing one thing!

If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

This is so hard because food is my favorite thing ever, so anything my mom cooks!

Tell us one of your special quirks!

I will randomly sing things for no reason, and it is usually just me narrating what I am doing or answering someone’s question.
