Kenya for a Reason

Our fall interns have been working with us for two months now. We love and appreciate all of their hard work. Here’s a message from our marketing intern, Kat Coffey:

When I returned to the United States from Kenya, I knew that God had sent me to Africa for a reason. I was desperately searching for a way that I could help. I applied to everything I could possibly find that would keep me in touch with helping Africa in any way that I could. I decided that the best thing for me to do would be to move to Africa and help hands-on, but God had a different plan for my life.

My mother had heard about Blood:Water, and thought that I should apply for an internship. I was very headstrong about moving to Africa, but I applied anyway. I was attending the University of Tennessee at the time, and knew that if I was not going to move to Africa I wanted to transfer to a different school. My sister was a senior at Belmont University and encouraged me to apply to Belmont. So, I applied to both Blood:Water and Belmont University on the same day, and prayed for guidance and support in my upcoming life decisions.

A few weeks later, I received my letter of acceptance to Belmont University and began to plan my move to Nashville. August came around, and the day before my birthday I received one of the best phone calls of my life–it was an invitation to be the marketing intern at Blood:Water. I was not only thankful but also extremely overwhelmed by God’s love and never-ending support.

I have been an intern for about two months, and could not be more appreciative for all that I have learned, been included in, and the incredible amount of care each and every one of the team members have shown me. Not a day goes by that I do not thank God for allowing me this opportunity and allowing me to be a part of an organization that is creating lasting change in Africa.
