It seems like there’s a “day” for everything. There’s important ones like World AIDS Day and Wear Red Day, and there’s even silly ones like Kazoo Day and Chocolate Covered Raisins Day! Well, this Saturday marks World Water Day. But, really, what does that mean? It’d be easy to just let Saturday pass us by without a thought as to why World Water Day even exists.
But, if you take a second to think on facts about water, you may give the day a second thought.

Fact:
780 million people lack access to clean water—that’s more than 2.5 times the population of the United States
Fact:
345 million of those 780 million live in Africa
Fact:
More than 3.4 million people die each year from water, sanitation and hygiene-related issues
Fact:
Every 21 seconds, a child dies from a water-related illness
Fact:
More people have a cell phone than a toilet

So World Water Day exists to bring the realization that good ole H2O isn’t a luxury for everyone and a crisis really does exist. People are dying because they can’t reach clean, safe water. We at Blood:Water believe the end of the water crisis is within our reach. Since we first launched in 2004, nearly a million people in Africa have gained access to clean water. Here’s to a thousand more.

Join us this week as we work to build a well so one community can drink clean water for the first time! All it takes is 1,000 people donating just $10! Just click here to donate.

So, this World Water Day, let’s lift a glass to those who are waiting and let’s build them a well!
