Each month, we choose a book that has somehow shaped what we know as an organization, that relates to our work, or that provides inspiration. As we read through the book, a Blood:Water staff member will blog about their thoughts on what we’re reading each week. And at the end of this month, we will kick off our live online discussions. We hope you’ll join us!

This month we have chosen “Mountains Beyond Mountains” by Tracy Kidder. “Mountains Beyond Mountains” has been a foundational staple to Blood:Water since our inaugural year in 2004. Jena Lee Nardella, Blood:Water co-founder and author of “One Thousand Wells,” personally recommended this month’s choice because of its heavy focus on “the right kinds of approaches to global health.”

“Mountains Beyond Mountains” follows Dr. Paul Farmer and his journey through several countries to change the global health system by teaching his philosophy that “the only real nation is humanity.”

Follow along with us as we read, and check out our blog every Tuesday through January for a new post about the book. Then join us the last week on January 26 for a live, online book club discussion! Click here to RSVP and learn more.

We will divide the book into three sections:

Parts One & Two (January 12)

Parts Three & Four (January 19)

Part Five & Epilogue (January 26)

Read section one, and check back next week for the first staff reflection!

Happy reading!
